Hey Linda,
here are the three main cloth shops in Grenoble :
TOTO (3, place Jean-Achard 38000 GRENOBLE) : prices are quite cheap, but choice is poor especially on linen and you won't find any wool.
Decor Discount (Two shops : 2 Rue des Glairaux, 38120 Saint-Egrève or 25 Rue du Champ Roman, 38400 Saint-Martin-d'Hères) : cheap but poor choice.
Mondial Tissus (7 Bis Rue de Comboire, 38130 Échirolles) : expensive, but more choice
Keep in mind that linen is quite expensive and it is not the most representative fabric in the period we reenact (XIIIe).
So I would suggest you to buy a mix of linen and cotton which is less expensive, or cotton at least. If you are rich enough (and if you manage to find it since we are close to summer), buy wool...
As I told you yesterday I have pattern for simple clothes XIIIth century. |

Merci
I have done some medieval recreation in Sweden, where I leaded to use linen as under tunic and wool as over tunic. Is this wrong for XIIIe?
Anyway. I need a new under tunic for a viking event that I will attend Sweden this summer. I know this period better, so I know what I want to do. I though I cut it out before the event this weekend and bring along to hand sew to have something to do.
This week end I will get opportunity to see what Excalibur usually wheres. Next project, I will try to do something XIIIe |

No problem. Moreover, for this event especially, we are not expected to be dressed fully XIIIe, so no problem with a viking. |

The tunic will not be done in time for this weekend. You said that maybe I could borrow something? |

Hi Linda,
We mostly have men clothes... a few dresses (2?) are also available, but I don't know which size exactly... probably quite small...
For XIIIth century (as for many other periods) linen underwear can be associated with a woolen tunic.
Hand sewing at Bressieux is a nice suggestion! _________________ Sophie - Ch'tite Neflarin (mais apprentie Barbarette!) |

Saddly both dresses we have are undersized, anyway, we have clothes for men that can be used as underwear. A simple piece of cloth with an opening for the head would fit in my opinion. |

Most french women are so small.
Can't I just dress as man? |

I found an other fabric store.
I is called "CB Tisue" and is localized just by tram station "Ste-Claire Les Halles". They sell really thin nice wool for about 60 eruo/meter.
A bit to expensive for me, but nice stuff. |
